Why GENOVA is the perfect holiday destination
Genoa is the Liguria that surprises: not a beach resort like Camogli or Rapallo, but a layered metropolis where medieval Gothic alleyways meet the Baroque elegance of the Palazzi dei Rolli (UNESCO Heritage) and the energy of the Old Port redesigned by Renzo Piano. Choosing a CasaViva apartment in Genoa means living like a local: neighbourhood markets, trattorias in the caruggi serving authentic farinata, Recco focaccia and mortar-ground pesto. And by train, Camogli, Rapallo and Santa Margherita are less than an hour away.
Palazzi dei Rolli (UNESCO)
The noble palaces of the historic centre, once used to host royal visitors, are today UNESCO World Heritage. Strade Nuove and Via Balbi are the most celebrated.
Old Port
The medieval harbour redesigned by Renzo Piano: the Genoa Aquarium (the largest in Europe), the Bigo, the Galeone Neptune and the Galata sea museum.
Genoese cuisine
Genoa invented pesto, focaccia, farinata and minestrone. In the caruggi you can still eat as in the old days, in trattorias with no signs outside.
World-class museums
Palazzo Rosso, Palazzo Bianco and Palazzo Spinola hold works by Van Dyck, Rubens, Caravaggio and the great Genoese masters of the 17th century.
Experiences
Things to do in GENOVA
The medieval caruggi
Genoa's medieval historic centre is one of Europe's largest. Getting lost among its alleyways is the most authentic experience the city offers.
Genoa Aquarium
Europe's largest aquarium with over 70 tanks and 12,000 animals. A must with children, enchanting for adults too.
Belvedere Castelletto lift
The public panoramic lift climbs to the Belvedere with spectacular views over Genoa and its port. Tiny cost, guaranteed emotion.
Recco focaccia and pesto
In Genoa focaccia is thin, oily and baked in a tray. And pesto is still made in the mortar. Two unmissable gastronomic experiences.
